Are You Deficient In Iron?

Earlier I sent out a slideshow presentation to the lovely ladies on my team discussing iron levels in women 👊🏻

I thought I’d do a post on here too, bringing to light the importance of keeping healthy iron levels in the body

Did you know that monthly periods are the most common cause of iron loss?

Women need up to 2 times more daily iron than men and lose a lot of iron through blood on their period

Some good food sources rich in iron include, red meat, fish, beans, dark leafy greens and grains

However, it may be difficult to meet the current need for iron through diet alone, especially in ladies with:

- Low red meat intake

- Those on a plant - based diet

- Those who have heavy periods

The body needs iron in order to make a certain protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body

If your body doesn’t have enough of this protein, your tissues and muscles won’t work effectively

This can lead to symptoms including:

- Unusual levels of fatigue

- Skin paler than usual

- Headaches

- Irritability

- Even feelings of depression

If you feel you are experiencing any of these symptoms of iron deficiency, it’s important to speak to your doctor as if left untreated it could result in further complications
